PHOTOS FROM THE UNITED STATES
2008
First, the sidewalk was like rising up and
someone could slip. Next, it was trashed with
garbage and tires. With gas prices rising, people
are going to want to walk and they shouldn’t
have to walk over this.” Kari, age 13, Detroit, Michigan
“I chose this picture because there was dirt where a sidewalk
should have been. There is dirt but no sidewalk. The government
and my community are responsible for improving the walking
environment.” Trevor, age 11, Grand Forks, North Dakota
“I chose to take this picture of the messed up painted school sign because
drivers can’t see the sign because it has all these dark black lines painted over.
They should repaint the school sign.” Laura, age 10, Ann Arbor, Michigan
“This photograph is about a car on the crosswalk. I chose this
picture because someone can get hit by the car. The government
could help by adding a pedestrian light to the corner to make it
safer” Isaak, age 13, Aurora, Colorado
I chose this picture because it is safe for
pedestrians. There is a sidewalk and stop
signals, you should always walk on crosswalks.
I felt safe walking in this environment. Rachel, age 11, Tacoma, Washington
“I would be happy to help make a better place to the
environment by fixing things like crosswalks. Also help people
cross the street and clean up more than just Earth Day. I would
clean up everyday.” Tanaiia, age 12, Newark, New Jersey
“I chose this picture because I wanted to share this with the
world because if people were to trip on this rock, they can fall
into the road and get hit.” Geoffrey, age 11, St. Petersburg, Florida
“This car is in the way of the lady. It is not safe for her to walk there." Juanita, Age 10, Lincoln, Nebraska
“I took this picture because of a broken sidewalk. You should feel safe so you
won’t trip and fall and break a bone. I didn’t feel very safe. They should make
new sidewalks to cover up the broken ones.” Brooke, age 9, Spartanburg, South Carolina
“I chose this picture because you can trip in the road and get hurt. The
side walk is cracked and destroyed. I think the government should take
responsibility for this.” Emily, age 13, Peoria, Illinois
“I chose this picture because there is garbage in the middle of
the street and it is unsafe for people walking” Enaly, age 13, New York, New York
