AboutRaising Safe Kids: One Stage at a Time is a safety campaign focused on child development and injury risks to children 14 and under. This parent-friendly Web site was created to educate parents and caregivers on how to keep kids safe from serious injury as they grow. Weekly rotating content on the site will feature video tips, safety information and quizzes. The site was launched in conjunction with National Safe Kids Week, which takes place every year during the last week of April or the first week of May. Unintentional injuries are the number ONE cause of death and disability for kids ages 1 to 14. With the right information, many of these injuries can be prevented. Why These 5 Risk Areas?Motor vehicle occupancy injuries, falls, bicycle-related injuries, fire and burns and poisonings cause the greatest number of injuries to children 14 and under. For more information about water safety, pedestrian safety, choking and suffocation prevention, safe sleep and other important risks to kids, please visit www.usa.safekids.org Safe Kids Week OverviewJohnson & Johnson is the founding sponsor of Safe Kids USA and Safe Kids’ partner in National Safe Kids Week. Thanks to Johnson & Johnson, National Safe Kids Week 2009 includes a research study, advocacy efforts, national television ads on MSNBC and Nickelodeon and grassroots events through hundreds of Safe Kids coalitions and chapters around the country. In 2008, 400 Safe Kids coalitions and chapters across the country held 1,700 events for Safe Kids Week. Over 430,000 attendees, including families and children, were educated about ways to prevent unintentional injuries.
